No Easy Explanation For Charter School Amendment Vote

Read the column here

Great minds think alike.  As evidence, see this Georgia Public Policy Foundation commentary from 16 November, in which Douglas A. Blackmon makes an argument similar to mine:

I had written much of my column before seeing Mr. Blackmon’s piece.  I was waiting for the “official” vote totals to be posted on the Secretary of State’s web site before completing my column, which happened on 15 November, to finalize it.  Besides, my column only runs every other week, at my request, so this is the first time that I have been up since the election.

See official election results from the Georgia Secretary of State’s office; the presidential election is the first item, while the charter school amendment is the next to last one, for which one will have to scroll way, way down):

SCHS Pigskin Finale

My alma matter SCHS Indians made the trek to Carrollton last Friday evening for the first round of the state AAAA playoffs.  Unfortunately, the Trojans emerged victorious by turning the visitors away by the score of 40-7.  Carrollton (8-3) jumped out to an early lead and steadily pulled away from the Indians (8-3), scoring 14 points in the initial quarter, 10 in the second, 9 in the third, and 7 in the fourth.  SCHS scored its 7 points in the second quarter.

Thus ends a fine season for the Indians.  The two teams to which SCHS lost during the regular season, each by a scant 4 points, both made the state playoffs: Monroe Area bested Shaw 21-14 and Chestatee lost to Lagrange 59-46.  Monroe Area next faces Grady, a 27-17 winner over River ridge, and Carrollton next faces Marist, a 56-0 victor over Gilmer.

Childhoom Memories Reflected In Autumn Colors

Read to column here.

Given the nature of this column, there are no notes or sources to post here. Just read, enjoy, and reflect. Based on the information provided in the column, I've already been contacted by a potential relative regarding genealogical research.

SCHS Pigskin Update

My alma mater SCHS Indians posted a 42-3 road win over Lumpkin County this past Friday to close out the regular season.  The victory left the Indians with an overall mark of 8-2 and a region record of 5-2.  It also placed the Indians third in the Region 8AAAA standings for the 2012 season.

Region 8AAA plays Region 5AAAA in the opening round of the state playoffs: first place Monroe Area hosts fourth place Shaw; second place Chestatee hosts third place LaGrange; and fourth place Eastside travels to first place Sandy Creek.

Of particular interest to me, the third place Indians travel to Grisham Stadium in Carrollton to face second place Carrollton.  The Trojans finished the regular season with a 7-3 mark, 6-1 in Region 5AAAA, by defeating the LaGrange Grangers last week by the score of 41-14.  The winner of that game faces the unenviable task of facing the winner of the Marist-Gilmer contest, which in all probability will be the former.

SCHS Pigskin Update

My alma mater SCHS Indians recorded a 23-7 win over the Eastside Eagles last Friday evening at The Reservation.  This week, the Indians (7-2, 4-2) travel up to Dahlonega to take on the Lumpkin County Indians at the Burial Grounds in the regular season and Region 8AAAA finales for both teams.  The “bizarro” Indians are coming off of a 24-7 loss to the Lanier Longhorns.
