SCHS Pigskin Update
My alma mater SCHS
Indians opened their region schedule with a 61-20 pounding of the Walnut Grove
Warriors last Friday evening. This week,
the Indians continue Region 8AAAA play by hosting Chestatee, a team making the
trip to The Reservation from Gainesville.
The War Eagles (2-1, 1-0), who have posted some impressive
point totals, are coming off of a 57-56 home shootout win over the Eastside
Eagles.
Thus far, though, the Indians (4-0, 1-0) are posting some
impressive point totals of their own; SCHS has outscored its opposition by the
margin of 182 to 74; that means that the team’s margin of victory has averaged
27 points through four games.
Reflecting that dominance, the Indians climbed from sixth to
fifth in the current AJC
Prep Zone football poll and remained at number five in that of the Associated
Press (and no, I don’t know why it would show up on an Ohio newspaper web
site, much less doing so sooner than those of Georgia).

Athens GOP Update
The Athens GOP realizes that it can sometimes be difficult to get over to the Headquarters office, located at 445 North Milledge Avenue. To alleviate this difficulty, it is setting up a "satellite" office for Winterville area residents this Saturday, 22 September. Drop by the Wok Star restaurant, located at 225 Cherokee Road (adjacent to Winterville Elementary School), to pick up your Romney/Ryan signs between 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Go inside for a good lunch while you are there.
Also, the next meeting of the Athens GOP will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, 08 October at the Country Inn & Suites, located at 236 Old Epps Bridge Road. Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp and education reform advocate Jim Geiser are slated to be the evening's guest speakers.
Finally, be advised that the Athens GOP will hold an Election Night party on Tuesday, 06 November, at Buffalo's Cafe. Festivities begin at 7:30 p.m. Sphere: Related Content

Register, Vote, And Only Then Complain
Read the column here.
I would like to thank my wife, Ann, for serving as my
muse. She is the one who suggested that
I write on the topic of voter registration.
I would also like to thank Gail Schrader, Supervisor of
Elections and Voter Registration. She
graciously agreed to review a draft of this column to make sure that I got my
technicalities right.

SCHS Pigskin Update
My alma mater
Indians posted an impressive 44-8 win over Habersham Central in their home
opener last Friday night. This week, the
Indians (2-0, 0-0) travel to Hartwell to face another long-time rival in Hart
County in what will now be a non-conference tilt. The Bulldogs (02, 0-0) are coming off of a 25-10
road loss to the Blessed Trinity Titans.
Following the win, the Indians jumped three spots, from
eighth to fifth, in this week’s Associated Press AAAA poll. The team remains in seventh place in the
Atlanta Journal Constitution’s Prep Zone poll.

SCHS Pigskin Update
My alma mater
Indians opened the season with a convincing 28-7 road win over long-time rival
Franklin County. Up next, the Indians
(1-0, 0-0) continue non-conference play by hosting the Habersham Central
Raiders (0-1, 0-0), who will make the trip down from Mt. Airy to The Reservation for the annual "Battle of Currahee Mountain." The Raiders are coming off of a 0-31 drubbing
at the hands of White County.

Addendum - Not
that they mean much, but poll rankings can be fun to talk about. Insofar
as the Associated Press is concerned, my Indians started the 2012
season as the tenth-ranked team in classification AAAA. After the 28-7 victory over Franklin County,
the Indians moved up to eighth place in the AP’s current poll. The
AJC’s Prep Zone has the Indians ranked at number seven in its poll.
